Stormchasers App
A tool app to track down monster storms to study and analyze them but some people do it just for fun.
The Design Goals
• Include enhanced functionality.
• Conduct further research to drive the project forward.
• Login features
• API connectivity
• Geo location
• Students may wish to use and target their own mobile device and or third-party APIs.
The Outcome
A working prototype built on Unity with MapBox SDKs.
Project background
Stormchasers is a storm chasing tool app to track down monster storms to study and analyse them. Storm chasing has been an adrenaline filled hobbies since the 50s and to pull it off people use tools to track the storms around the world to start their chase. (Wikipedia, 2023)
As reported by the guardian, a growing number of storm chasers are on the move to face against the mother nature.
Design Concept
The design was inspired by storm analytics and weather conditions, the design elements have a simple digital feel to it. The colours used for the design are also inspired by a digital design system.
Softwares Used
- Unity
- Figma
- Adobe Photoshop
- Open Weather API
Process
The HCD process or the double diamond process is conducted first, by researching the users then defining the problems which helps us to ideate a solution which is then carried forward with a lo-fi prototype, then the prototype is iterated with the help of user surveys and interviews which then leads to the creation of a hi-fi prototype and then finally ends with testing the solution with real users.
User Research ➡ Problem Statement ➡ Ideation ➡ Lo-Fi Prototype ➡ Iterate ➡ Hi-Fi Prototype ➡ User Testing
