Mercedes Me App
A new makeover to the existing Mercedes Me App.
The Design Goals
• Navigation: Locate nearest petrol/ electric charging.
• Call a Friend: Use your device to call.
• Connect a device: Connect / pair a mobile phone.
• Security: Enable to a friend with a virtual key.
The Outcome
A full working prototype in Figma with fresh redesigning of menus for ease of use.
Project background
The Mercedes Me is a remote connect app which allows users to remotely control key vehicle functions, receive real-time updates on maintenance, access emergency assistance, and seamlessly integrate with smartphones for navigation updates and vehicle tracking. You can check the tire pressure, lock or unlock the doors and also handover a digital key to a friend or family. You can also locate your vehicle and be warned if for example, the sunroof or doors are not closed.
Design Concept
The design was inspired by the existing MBUX UI but with a bit of experimentation and brainstorming to give it a new and refreshed look, the design elements have a sharp and distinct look and feel to it reminiscent to the MBUX. The colours used for the design are all from the existing design system.
Softwares Used
- Figma
- Adobe Photoshop
Process
The HCD process or the double diamond process is conducted first, by researching the users then defining the problems which helps us to ideate a solution which is then carried forward with a lo-fi prototype, then the prototype is iterated with the help of user surveys and interviews which then leads to the creation of a hi-fi prototype and then finally ends with testing the solution with real users.
User Research ➡ Problem Statement ➡ Ideation ➡ Lo-Fi Prototype ➡ Iterate ➡ Hi-Fi Prototype ➡ User Testing
Research
The Mercedes me app is compatible with various Mercedes-Benz models including saloons, SUVs, MPVs, V-Class Marco Polo, CLA 250 e Shooting Brake, B 250 e, EQA, EQE SUV, Mercedes-AMG A 35 4MATIC, Maybach S-Class, and Maybach EQS SUV.
It is available for download on Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices, providing users with convenient access to vehicle status and control features. It also offers features for electric vehicles, allowing users to display their vehicle’s range on a map and search for charging stations nearby.
The Automotive UX industry is based on the pillars of manufacturers, engineers, stakeholders and all the kinds of UX designers, researchers, and writers. User experience (UX) research helps us recognize the user needs and goals allowing us to find common traits in our target audience.
A well-designed car interface not only improves the user experience but also increases brand loyalty and customer satisfaction. (MarketsAndMarkets,2024)
